Associate Professor - Departments of Radiology and Surgery and Director, Female Pelvic Imaging at New York University

 

I am a staff radiologist in the section of abdominal imaging at NYU School of Medicine/Bellevue Hospital.  I am a full time clinical radiologist, and I divide my time between clinical, teaching activities, administration and research.  I devote 40% of my clinical activity to the magnetic resonance (MR) division, 60% to the computed tomography (CT)/ fluoroscopy division and ultrasound division, where I actively participate in the monitoring and interpretation of examinations. 

 

Since I first started at NYU in August 2007, I have been actively involved in genitourinary (GU) imaging, with a focus on MR imaging.  I initially worked with the urologists at their weekly meetings, and was under the tutelage of Dr. Bosniak in developing projects of interest in GU imaging.   My focus has been in evaluating the role of MRI in the Bosniak classification of cystic renal tumors.  Recently, I have become involved in the detection and characterization of involvement in the pelvis in women with deep endometriosis.  I have also been investigating our accuracy in depicting placental implantation anomalies.

 

Currently, I actively participate in the weekly Bellevue oncologic surgery-medicine interdepartmental conference, the weekly general surgery Morbidity and Mortality conference, and the Endometriosis monthly interdisciplinary conferences. I review radiologic examinations performed in our department as well as at outside institutions in these conferences. Decisions about patient management are determined by members of the departments of surgery, hematology-oncology, and gynecology based on these interpretations. 

 

I actively participate in different activities related to teaching and quality assurance in Radiology.  Until July 2016, I served as the Fellowship Director of Body MRI as well as the rotation evaluator for the Body MRI rotation, where I structured the learning objectives, conferences and independent activities of the fellows and residents.  I also serve on the weekly QA committee at Bellevue, where representatives including Technologists, Nursing, Administration and Clinical Radiologists meet to discuss operating issues at Bellevue.  Additionally, until July 2016 I served on the Education committee for the Residency.  Until December 2016, I served as one of the faculty advisors to the Clinical Competency Committee, and I evaluated and ran the 4th year mini-fellowship program.

 

Departmentally, I serve as the Course Director for our NYU Head to Toe yearly conference.  I speak and serve on organizational committees at several local, national and international conferences, including the NYRR Annual Meeting, the SCBT-MR, SAR, ISMRM and ARRS and the RSNA.

 

I serve on several national committees.  In 2010, I was chosen to serve on the American College of Radiology Appropriateness Criteria Panel for gastroenterology, a committee chaired by Max Rosen; I continue to serve in this role.  In 2012, I was chosen to serve on the American Board of Radiology in the Reproductive-Endocrine Women’s Imaging section, originally chaired by Marcia Javitt, MD, currently by Lisa Jones, MD, (U Penn) where I actively write core Radiology Board examination questions with a committee of 10 other members.  I was recently promoted to serve as the GU representative for the new revised MOC (Maintenance of Certification) directly under the incoming president, Brent Wagner, MD. Additionally, I actively publish and review articles for multiple peer-reviewed journals, including Radiology, ABR, JCAT, JMRI, and European Radiology.  I review at RSNA under Judy Yee, head of GI radiology, for Radiographics selection. To date I have published 37 articles, with several others in-press.  I have been invited to multiple outside visiting professorships, including the Cleveland Clinic, Case Western, Columbia University, Nebraska University, Texas Tech, UT Southwestern and, recently Massachusetts General Hospital.
